Photos of Bushbuck by Yvonne van der MeyOne of the mid-sized antelopes, and one that you can see every now and then. Their numbers are fairly high, but they are pretty shy towards people. So often you'll get a glimpse of their horns or behind. Once in a while you might be lucky enough to see one close, and take some real nice photographs. They are mostly nocturnal, but in undisturbed places they are active during the day as well. Only the rams carry horns, that have a slight spiral with just one twist. The bushbuck is also creatively coloured, with white marks, dots and stripes, patches and bands. In Kruger most bushbuck live solitary lives. There have been just a few
occasions when I have seen a small herd. Very often you can find them
together with baboons or monkeys. The Bushbuck might spend a long time
underneath a tree, especially when eating its fruit. Bushbuck are excellent
swimmers. It is always a pleasure to meet this animal.
