Photos of the Pygmy Antelopes: Klipspringer, Steenbok and Sharpe´s Grysbok by Yvonne van der MeyIn Africa not everything is enormous, there is space for the small creatures as well. This page is about the small members of the antelope family. The Klipspringer is very well known, because you can easily find them standing on a rock, like a statue, on the very tips of their hooves. Steenbok and Sharpe´s Grysbok are two of the smallest
antelopes, with only Suni and Oribi being smaller and also very rare.
I have never seen either of these two species. It is difficult to distinguish
between a Steenbok and a Sharpe´s Grysbok, if you are not too familiar
with antelopes, but after a while, you can see the differences more easily.
In the coat colour anyway, the Sharpe´s Grysbok has a definite white
ticking in its fur, while the Steenbok´s coat is a plain reddish
brown. Please click on a thumbnail picture below to see a larger version of the photo (please note that your Internet browser must allow pop-up pages and javascript).
