Cape Buffalo photos by Yvonne van der Mey

These are some of the pictures I've taken of Cape Buffalo, and most of them were taken in Kruger National Park in South Africa. Encounters with Buffalo are normally when they're moving around in large herds and sometimes you can see more than a thousand animals together. Sometimes you see one or more old bulls walking on their own, who are no longer part of a herd. They have a very bad reputation, and can display very unpredictable behaviour. Eventhough a herd of buffalo can look ever so relaxed, it can change into complete chaos within seconds. Whenever one of more of them feel that there could be a threat, it very often results in a massive stampede. Very impressive and very dangerous.
