Photographs of grasses, plants and shrubs
in Africa by Yvonne van der Mey
With more than 950 different species growing in South Africa, grasses
can be qualified as a very succesful plant species, as in the rest of
the world. Some species are used for roofing and many species provide
food for lifestock and wildlife.
Eventhough they aren't always appreciated as much as flowers and trees,
there are really beautiful species to be seen. Like many other countries,
South Africa also suffers from alien grasses, which in many cases, is
a treat to native species. There is an extensive programme to remove alien
plants going on in South Africa.
