Photos of African Predators by Yvonne van der MeyMost people perceive finding lion and leopard to be the ultimate highlight of their visit to Africa. Eventhough I admire both of these species very much, they are not the only predators to get my pulse racing. The gracious cheetah, with it lean body and smooth movements, I might like even more than the leopard. Sadly, their numbers are decreasing so quickly that in some areas their existence is threatened. Wild Dogs are magnificent animals, but they too are becoming more and more difficult to find as their numbers are dropping significantly. I've learned so much about hyenas and have come to appreciate them; it's such a joy to encounter and observe them. And of course, coming across smaller carnivores like the mongoose, are a celebration if you can approach and observe them very closely. There are a lot of species that I have seen, but have not been able to take good photographs of, like the African Wild Cat, Caracal, Serval and Genet. These animals are extremely shy and most of them are nocturnal ... well, it's another very good reason to go back to Africa again. © Please respect the copyright protection on my work and contact me if you are interested in possible reprint permisions.
