Photographs of Zebra by Yvonne van der MeyWhen you think of Africa, you think of the black and white stripes of the Zebra. A very typical sight of Africa is of large plains with groups of these proud and magnificent animals. Very often you see them with groups of Blue Wildebeest. Both species are a favourite prey of large predators, with one big difference: a zebra will fight back when attacked. With one powerful kick from the hind legs, they can severely harm the predator. They can easily break legs or ribs. They can run very fast, up to 65 km an hour. The stallions also get into
severe fights over dominance, during which they can harm each other pretty
badly. There are two species of Zebra in South Africa, the Mountain Zebra
and a species that only occurs in Kruger, the Burchell's or Plain Zebra.
All my photographs are of Burchell's Zebra.
