Photographs of toadstools and fungi in The
Netherlands
by Yvonne van der Mey
It was only in the autumn of 2004 that I really "discovered"
toadstools and fungi. Before that I looked at them but without really
seeing their beauty or realizing how special they are. That autumn was
extremely good for toadstools and fungi. Not only in numbers, but also
in diversity. In about one month, I took approximately 1500 pictures,
capturing more than a hundred different species, including several that
are endangered and on the red list in The Netherlands. It took a lot of
time to identify them, but despite of all my time and efforts, there are
still two (see the last two pictures) that I can't identify. If anyone
knows which species they are, please let me know? Every bit of help is
welcome.
Toadstools have become an addiction for me (in the right sense of the
word). I simply can't pass them without taking a good look, making notes,
and returning later to take photographs and enjoy their beauty. A different
approach is needed to take pictures of subjects that are sometimes as
small as 1 or 2 centimetres, and are nearly always very close to the ground.
My interest and love for macro-photography was born. I sure hope you enjoy
this series of photographs as much as I do.
